Description

Seven new science fiction and fantasy stories from some of our best writers.

For our longest piece this time, we’ve got Jacey Bedford, with her Song of Unmaking – a superpowers tale with tragic consequences. Jacey’s a multi-published author with DAW – we’re big fans of her Psi-Tec sci-fi and her engaging fantasy The Amber Crown, as well as Chairing the Milford Writers Workshop (more on that later).

We’ve got a rare SF story from successful crime novelist Steve BurfordThe Art of War – delving between the blurred lines of what’s real and what isn’t. If you like what you see here check out his police-procedural Crossed Lines (and others) from NineStar Press or his fantasy novel Moon King from Dancing Unicorn.

We’ve got Mark Rigney’s Boggle Dog and Blue Cat giving us more robot-based SF – you may remember Mark’s fine Dash Nine stories from earlier Wyldbloods. Mark has plenty of great stories in places like Lightspeed but he’s also written extensively for theatre and his words have been performed across the US and internationally.

Liam Hogan gives us another fine story – Two Percent – all about black holes and the prospects of surviving one. Check out Liam’s extended short fiction The Mortsafe – in the Call of the Wyld collection, his award-winning stories in the Best of British Science Fiction, amongst other places, and his collections Happy Ending NOT Guaranteed from Arachne Press and A Short History of the Future out in March from NewCon Press.

We also have a new story from Holley Cornetto, who also wrote the very first story in the very first issue of Wyldblood Magazine. Maiden of the Rock is a fantasy story (yes, mermaids) and continues our tradition of thoughtful tales that challenge your assumptions. She’s a creative writing teacher with a string of writing credits – check out her chilling novella We Haunt These Woods from Bleeding Edge Books.

Cardiff writer JL George gives us Coblyn, an unsettling fantasy horror. She’s written for us a few times (including our favourite Thawing from #1), and for many other fine magazines. Check out her novel, The Word, from Parthian Books.

M Luke McDonell’s The Obscurists rounds out our collection, a character-based sci-fi portal story with plenty of action. We published her first in issue #12 with her fine story The Leisure Class and we’ve been lucky enough to see a sneak preview of her novel-length material which will blow you away when she publishes it. Check out her other work in places like Shoreline of Infinity and track down her excellent SF in SF podcast.

Our best collection yet? We thinks so! Available now.
